The York Recreation and Convention centre was a concept conceived by York Shire Council in 2008, aiming to incorporate most of the sporting clubs in town at one centralised venue and provide a new state of the art facility for the whole community to enjoy.

The site of the original trotting track and football oval was chosen and work on the site commenced in 2010, finally being completed in 2012. The resulting complex is functional, airy and bright and has wonderful aspects over most of the playing fields. We are proud to be affiliated with sporting clubs large and small, young and old and hope the surrounding areas within the Forrest Oval complex will allow for further expansion and more active clubs to become part of the York community facility. As home to some of the oldest sporting clubs in the state, we expect the tradition of competitive play will still be alive and growing in York in another hundred years’ time.

The venue itself is currently being utilised for community meetings, sporting events, corporate conferences and local seminars as well as being a popular spot for a weekend meal or a cold beverage and the occasional private party. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive environment for locals and visitors alike and have endeavoured to keep all facilities fully accessible, with a fenced playground, disabled toilets and parking, as well as ramp access to the main venue.
